Sokoto State Government, UNICEF, and 12 Renowned Musicians Collaborate on ‘No More Zero Dose’ Song to Eradicate Polio in Nigeria

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government, in partnership with UNICEF and twelve renowned musicians, has launched the song “No More Zero Dose,” aimed at promoting vaccination to protect children from preventable diseases, particularly polio.

During the launch, Commissioner Hajiya Asabe Balarabe commended UNICEF for its efforts in the fight against polio and pledged the state’s continued support for immunization initiatives. “We must ensure that no child is left unvaccinated,” she stated.

Hon. Bello Garba, the Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA), along with the Executive Secretary, emphasized the devastating impact of polio on communities. They urged stakeholders at all levels to collaborate in eradicating this disease.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Muhammad Ibrahim K., advocated for greater media collaboration to disseminate messages about the importance of vaccination and polio eradication in the state. “We need a united front in spreading awareness,” he remarked.

Ghani Abdullahi, one of the collaborating musicians, highlighted the urgent need to boost immunization coverage in West and Central Africa, a region currently facing the lowest vaccination rates in the world. “Through this song, we aim to inspire action and change perceptions about vaccinations,” he said.

The “No More Zero Dose” initiative reflects a concerted effort to ensure that all children in Nigeria receive essential vaccinations, thereby reducing the risk of preventable diseases and promoting healthier communities.
