Soldiers beat police on guard duty at CCECC to death

By Tunde smith

One police officer is dead and another in critically condition after a clash with soldiers in Lagos.

Lagos police command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed the death of one of its officer.

The clash which took place on Wednesday evening, was between police officers on duty at the CCECC gate along the Lagos-Badagry expressway and men of the Nigerian Army in the Ojo area of the state.

The cops had stopped some cars from moving so as to make way for a truck owned by the construction company, CCEECC.

Among the vehicles stopped was a military coastal bus conveying 30 private officers to the Military Ordinance school in Ojo.

The soldiers became enraged that the police officers stopped them from moving just to pave way for a truck.

Witnesses said the soldiers allegedly alighted from the bus and began challenging the cops comprising an Assistant Superintendent of Police, three Inspectors, and one sergeant.

The situation degenerated as the soldiers allegedly beat up the police officers, seized their rifles and dragged them to the barracks.

The abducted officers were later released and taken to the hospital where an inspector died on Thursday.

His remains has been deposited at the Navy Reference hospital morgue in Satellite town for preservation and autopsy.

The police spokesperson said, “Yes, there was an incident involving soldiers and our policemen, which led to the death of one police officer, an Inspector. The Police and Army authorities are working closely to resolve the issue.”
