Lionel Messi led Inter Miami to a crucial 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City in the CONCACAF Champions Cup first-leg match at Children’s Mercy Park. Despite sub-zero temperatures, the Argentine superstar delivered a clinical finish in the 56th minute, securing an advantage for his team ahead of the return leg.

The match, played in extreme cold with temperatures dropping to 5°F, tested both teams’ endurance. Messi, however, remained unfazed. Assisted by Sergio Busquets, he showcased his trademark composure, slotting the ball past Sporting KC’s goalkeeper to break the deadlock. His goal was the defining moment of an intense encounter, giving Inter Miami the upper hand in the two-leg series.

This fixture marked the official debut of Inter Miami’s new signings Gonzalo Luján, Tadeo Allende, and Telasco Segovia, as well as the first competitive match under new head coach Javier Mascherano. Sporting KC fought hard but failed to capitalize on their chances, leaving them with a difficult task in the second leg.

Inter Miami will now host Sporting KC at Chase Stadium on February 25, where a win or draw would secure their progression in the tournament. Fans eagerly anticipate another exciting showdown as Messi and his teammates aim for another dominant performance.
