Spotify Celebrates 10 Years of Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’ with Special Short Film

Spotify is commemorating the 10th anniversary of Wizkid’s influential single, ‘Ojuelegba,’ with a special short film. Released on September 17, 2024, the film highlights the song’s profound impact on the global rise of Afrobeats.

Since its debut in 2014, ‘Ojuelegba’ has surpassed 55 million streams on Spotify, reaching this milestone in April 2024. The track’s success is reflected in its broad international appeal, with top streaming countries including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Nigeria, and the Netherlands.

Lagos leads as the city with the highest streams in August, underscoring the song’s deep connection to the city it celebrates. Following Lagos, cities like London, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Nairobi also feature prominently on the streaming charts, showcasing the song’s continued popularity.

‘Ojuelegba’ resonates with a diverse audience, particularly among listeners aged 18-24, who represent 43% of its streams. The song’s ongoing relevance is evident as it continues to engage both younger and older audiences.

From reaching 1 million streams in August 2015 to exceeding 55 million today, ‘Ojuelegba’ has charted a remarkable journey, symbolizing the global expansion of Afrobeats. The track not only reflects Wizkid’s rise but also serves as a cultural touchstone for African music’s influence worldwide.
