Suspected assassins attack late Enugu LP Senatorial candidate’s aide

By Sunday Okafor, Enugu

Less than two years after the assasination of prominent politician, Barr Oyibo Victor Chukwu, one of his personal aides, Mr Prince C. Igbokwe has been attacked by gunmen.

Our correspondent recalls that Oyibo Chukwu was assassinated weeks before the 2023 general elections, attracting outrage from Nigerians.

Before the polls, he was widely believed to be coasting home to victory.

However, that ambition was cut short when gunmen ambushed him at the Amechi Area of Enugu State, shot and set his body ablaze.

There are now indications that the gunmen are not done with the murderous acts as Igbokwe was attacked in broad daylight.

A competent source disclosed that Igbokwe was driving towards the NOAWS Junction in Trans-Ekulu when gunmen double crossed him and after trying to deflate his vehicle tryes.

“They shot multiple times but could not directly get at him; however, they were able to double cross him.

“But on attempting to shoot at close range, military officials who were on escort duty to Nsukka, started firing sporadic shots; that was how the gunmen jumped into their vehicle and zoomed off, leaving Igbokwe traumatized,” the source disclosed.

When contacted, Mr Igbokwe, who said he was still in shock over the incident, said it was the second time he was surviving assassination in a spate of one year.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the incident.

He said, “the victim, Mr Prince C. Igbokwe was saved from the bullets of gunmen by security operatives.

“The State Police Command is urging residents who have useful information to volunteer same towards the arrest of the perpetrators.”
