Suspended CBN Governor, Emefiele, Arrested by DSS Following Failed Capture Attempts

Must read

In a surprising turn of events, Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) late Friday after his suspension by President Bola Tinubu.

The decision to suspend Emefiele did not come as a shock to many, considering the widespread criticism he faced for his alleged mismanagement of the nation’s monetary policies.

A statement released to the public cited an ongoing investigation into Emefiele’s office and planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy as the reasons behind his suspension.

According to Willie Bassey, the Director of Information at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Emefiele’s suspension takes effect immediately.

Subsequent to the suspension, the DSS promptly arrested Emefiele, taking him into custody for questioning.

It is worth noting that Emefiele had previously faced accusations of aiding and abetting acts of terrorism, and the DSS had previously made unsuccessful attempts to arrest him prior to President Tinubu assuming office.
