Arsenal vs Man United: Gunners can cope without Aubameyang –Arteta

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal are no longer so vulnerable when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is sidelined.

Gunners captain Aubameyang missed their last two match–es, both against Southampton, and revealed on social media that his absence was due to his mother suffering from “health issues”.

The Gabon forward is not expected to return for Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Manchester United on Saturday.

But with Arteta’s side unbeaten in their last six league games, Aubameyang’s absence is no longer as fatal as it might have been in the past.

Arteta feels more of his players have stepped up to make sure the skipper’s time away does not derail them.

“That is something that we had to improve and address dramatically,” he said when asked if he was no longer reliant on Aubameyang.

“If you want to have any chance of competing with the top teams in this league, just to rely on one player is completely insufficient and it won’t be sustainable over time.

“But having said that, we know the importance of Auba and his goals and his contribution to the team. The more we have him, the stronger we are for sure as well.”

Aubameyang had travelled with the squad for the FA Cup defeat at Southampton on Saturday before leaving just hours before kick-off.

“Hey guys, Thank you so much for all the messages and calls over the last few days,” he wrote on Instagram.

“My mother is going through some health issues and I had to be there for her. She’s already much better now and I will be back home tonight.

“I’m more than grateful to the doctors and nurses helping her get through this.

“And of course, thanks to my Arsenal fam for the love yesterday! I’m more determined than ever to keep our momentum going!

“Thank you all again – I really am beyond blessed to receive this level of support and love from all of you and I can’t wait to be back.”

Aubameyang Bags Brace As Arsenal Crush Newcastle

Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a brace to make up for earlier missed chances as Arsenal crushed Newcastle United 3-0 on Monday evening, extending the Gunners’ unbeaten Premier League run to five games.

Aubameyang ends Premier League goal drought at Emirates Stadium

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended his Premier League goal drought at Emirates Stadium with his equaliser in their 1-1 draw against Southampton on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old striker ended a run of 648 minutes without a league goal at home, by completing a fine team move to cancel out Theo Walcott’s opener in the 52nd minute.

Aubameyang’s last league goal at Emirates Stadium was in July against Watford where he scored a brace in their final fixture for the 2019-20 Premier League season.

Wednesday’s strike was the Gabonese’s third goal of the season after 13 league appearances and his first goal from open play since their league opener against Fulham on September 12.

Although the result stretched the Gunners’ unbeaten streak to six matches, Arteta remains positive on Aubameyang’s goalscoring form.

“Hopefully it’s going to change everything dramatically and he’s going to start to score every game because this is what we need at the moment,” Arteta said after the match.

Aubameyang, meanwhile, dismissed the attention on him as Arsenal continue their struggle in the Premier League.

They remain 15th in the league table with 14 points from 13 matches while enduring their worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1974-75 season.

He said; “At the moment, I’m a guy when things are going wrong I just work a lot, I try to do my job, to give everything, and I give my advice inside [the club], and it’s true I’ve not spoken a lot in the last few weeks, but I’m here and I want to talk on the pitch, that’s it.

“I think tonight is not about my goal and me, it’s about the team. As I say, we need points, it doesn’t matter if I score, the most important thing is to get points.”

Arsenal will be targeting their first Premier League win since November 1 (1-0 win over Manchester United) when they visit Everton at the Goodison Park on Saturday.

  • How Aubameyang’s favourite Arsenal youngster changed Arteta’s mind

How Aubameyang’s favourite Arsenal youngster changed Arteta’s mind

    “This young boy is fire.”

Those were the words of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when he alerted the world to the talents of Folarin Balogun with a post on social media in 2019.

Few outside of Arsenal would have been aware of the teenage striker up to that point, but when a player such as Aubameyang makes a comment like that based on what he has seen at training, others soon start to take notice.

And take notice they should, because the Gunners have one of the hottest young talents in the country in Balogun – who could be handed his second senior appearance on Thursday against Molde in the Europa League.

The forward is one of several youngsters who have made the trip to Norway with Mikel Arteta’s squad, and while he is not expected to start, he has a good chance of adding to the 14 minutes he was given off the bench against Dundalk earlier in the competition.

“It feels great,” Balogun said after making his senior debut last month. ”It’s a moment I have been waiting for a little while so to finally get it feels great.

“I can only thank Mikel and the staff for this opportunity and I look forward to doing it more often.

“I’ve been working my way through the academy and I think as time has gone on I’ve become a better player. I think that’s shown in my performances and I think it’s good now to get the recognition that my performances deserve.”

Those final few words from Balogun following his late appearance against Dundalk shine a light on where he feels he should be now, having made such an impression at youth level in the past couple of seasons.

And they paint a picture as to why – with just eight months of his contract remaining at Arsenal – he has yet to sign a new deal with the club he has been with since he the age of 10.

Balogun has immense belief in his ability and has felt for some time now that his progress in north London has not been as fast as he would have liked.

While others such as Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka have been given opportunities in recent seasons to work with and feature with the first-team on a regular basis, Balogun has mainly had to watch on from afar.

That is why talks over extending his contract proved so difficult and why, after months of negotiations, they broke down altogether in the summer.

Prior to that, the Gunners had rejected a £5 million ($6.7m) offer for Balogun from Championship promotion hopefuls Brentford in January, and were hoping at that point that they would be able to reach an agreement with the teenager over extending his stay.

Arsenal beat Manchester United in the league at Old Trafford for the first time since 2006 thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty.

The Gunners were much the better side in the clash at Old Trafford on Sunday and Aubameyang’s 69th-minute spot-kick secured their first victory at Old Trafford in the Premier League since September 2006.

United created few opportunities in front of goal and the contest was settled after Paul Pogba was deemed to have fouled Hector Bellerin inside the area.

The result helped Arsenal move up to eighth place in the table on 12 points, ahead of United in 15th, with the Red Devils winless at home in the Premier League this season.

Aubameyang signs new three-year contract with Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has signed a new three-year contract with Arsenal.

The 31-year-old’s deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, but he has now ended speculation by extending his stay at the Emirates.

The Arsenal captain scored in their opening-day 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, with first-team manager Mikel Arteta hinting after the match a new contract was close.

“Signing for this special club was never in doubt,” Aubameyang said. “It’s thanks to our fans, my team-mates, my family and everybody at this club that I feel like I belong here.

“I believe in Arsenal. We can achieve big things together. We have something exciting here and I believe the best is to come for Arsenal.”

Arteta added: “It was important for Pierre-Emerick to stay with us. He’s a superb player with an incredible mentality. Being the player to have taken the least amount of time to reach 50 goals with this club tells you everything you need to know about him and his way of working.

“He’s an important leader for the team and a big part of what we’re building. He wants to be up there with the best players in the world and leave his mark. He can achieve that here.”

Aubameyang scored 22 goals in the Premier League last season and netted twice in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final to secure their place in the Europa League.

The Gabon forward also scored – and converted the winning spot-kick in a penalty shootout – as Arsenal beat Liverpool to win the Community Shield.

Since his move to Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, he has scored 55 goals in 86 Premier League games.
