  • Tackling insecurity : The AA Sule Model

Tackling insecurity : The AA Sule Model

    By Adefolarin A. Olamilekan

Government’s across the world inability to effectively and efficiently protect life and property is taking a toll.

Even though developing nations are making head ways, especially in improving living conditions of there citizens and with modern technologies in security.

In Africa the story is much pathetic. Simply due to cost of living and doing business, couple with disposable incomes challenges has aggravated insecurity in the continent.

According, to the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP) in its 2021 report on the economic value of peace, showed that as much as eight per cent of Nigeria’s GDP or $132.59 billion (N50.38 trillion at N380/$1) is being impacted economically by growing violence around the country. This data point to economic impact of violence on countries’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

However, the implication of the report findings of IEP that estimates, the economic impact of violence that was calculated using a comprehensive aggregation of costs related to violence, conflict and violence containment spending. Eighteen variables across three domains of violence containment, armed conflict and interpersonal and self-inflicted violence were modelled to arrive at the cost of violence in Nigeria.

Interesting, even as this happened in country.
The current Government of Nasarawa state under the stewardship of Engr. AA Sule has deployed a strategic security architecture that is locally driven but with global best practice models.

Conversely, Engr. Abdullahi Sule’s administration’s mechanisms in governance architecture proved to be a walk the talk of the government development policy thrust placing the state on a high pedestal of economic development.

From different angles and circles of governance and policies. The Gov. Sule security model is outwardly securing economic growth and development of the state.

For instance, the herders farmers clashes in the country over the year’s recordings huge lost of live and properties worth millions of naira.
Remains a monstrous challenge to the nations

Significantly, Nasarawa state government in the last two years put in place a re-designed security models that fostered such clandestine clashes in the state.

Not only that other The security challenges bordering on kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and other sundry crimes have been reduced to the barest.

The AA Sule administration understand the imperative of working with the federal government and neighboring states governors to deployed its security models.

As the governor said in recent media chart that.
“Through sustained collaboration and synergy with the government of various states, we have been able to reduce border conflicts and skirmishes in our border communities”

Succinctly, we admits that Gov Sule administration security models is the type that seek out networking with dedicated stakeholders like the military.
This network birthed the establishment of military super camps at Kenyehu and Udege in Toto and Nasarawa LGAs.

Without over exaggeration the Nasarawa state collaboration with security agencies and all other critical security stakeholders had successfully improve security in the state.
One laudable fits of this is the checkmating and chasing out the deadly Daru-salam sects from Toto LGA of the state.

One must acknowledged the fact that Gov. Sule pride in the expanded security stakeholders meetings.
That accommodate all security heads, traditional rulers and state executive council fine tuned the models of the state security dragnets with great impacts.

Apart from the foregoing Governor, Sule is using education to fight the security challenges in the state.
The governor disclosed this in Lafia the state capital recently.
“We believe in science and technical education. And we are using education to actually fight insecurity because we believe if people are well educated, independent, well-equipped, then they will get away from this security challenges that we are facing.”
We must say that the peaceful coexistence of all ethnics and religious group has been well managed by the governor also connote a model of security success in the state.
For us this has influence the administration to achieved milestones in other sector such as health, education, agriculture, infrastructures among other.

It is our firm believe that peaceful atmosphere’s Nasarawa state is enjoying today is bound to increased her food productions if the security models of the current government can be sustained.
In the same vein,as allied agricultural industry springs up in the state and neighboring states, farmers in Nasarawa state can feed them with raw materials
Specifically, we commends the state government, but we see need for them to keep it up.

While, there is still more rooms for the government to improve on.
Because on the flip side, attracting investors to the state to must be Marshall with the target environments that promotes ease of doing business.
Similarly, the security in the state might be better now but it could only get better with employment for the youth in industrial sector leading to zero idle hands and policy consistencies in as legacy.

Leveraging Infrastructural Development to Unlock Nasarawa State’s Economic

    By Adefolarin A. Olamilekan

For Nasarawa state to minimize and benefits from it centralized posture among states that made up the North-Central geopolitical zone. To overcome the effects of unstable national economic shock from international oil prices and reduces dependence on FAAC.

The state under the current Governor A.A Sule has the opportunity to leverage on infrastructural development to unlock Nasarawa state’s economic.

This is a key investment drive that most state government in Nigeria hardly takes advantage off, but the few over the year’s that dear to take on this challenge have left legacy that generations and generations rave about them. .

Although, it almost a 100% capital intensive, the Nasarawa state government gearing towards developing infrastructure is to encourage accessibility of the state to all viable investors local and foreign, as well as for an industrial hub.

Critically, stakeholders and investors had raised concerns about the level of infrastructural development in the Nasarawa state, over the years. Nonetheless, we commend the current drive of Governor A.A Sule, especially as it relates to wooing investors to the State through its economic blueprint agenda.

However, this is not enough, and we believe Governor A.A Sule understands this clearly having had a very successful business set and requisite.

Nasarawa state with proven reserves of over 20 different solid mineral resources, arable land so good for agriculture, having one of the best climate weather conditions that is gracious and been the gate way to far northern part and outpost to southern Nigeria decently.

One attributes of the state is it closeness to the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, the Nigeria capital. This alone made should make the state an enviable stratagem to fast track infrastructural development in the state.

And its does not matter were this infrastructure development is concentrated, the end point is that the entire state remains a corridor to every other part of the country. Consequently far for industrializations

While the challenges are daunting, the need for infrastructure development provides an opportunity to harness the state’s solid minerals and other natural potential.

For example with the Akurba Power Substation Lafia, Nasarawa State Cargo Airport, Kwandere, Farin Ruwa Dam, flag-off of the construction of hundred of  kilometers of road network scattered all over the state there are hopes attract business interest to the state.

A case in point is Akurba Power Substation in Lafia with optimism that power generates there would increasingly serve as deployment feedstock to industries and help power the state.

In addition, the infrastructure development project is expected to support the development of Dangote sugar in Tunga, Fertilizer Company in Lafia and other part of the state, Agro-processing companies all around Keffi and Karu, and the mining site companies in Nasarawa LGA, and other Agro-industries that will generate employment opportunities and facilitate balanced economic growth in the state.

Will Governor A.A Sule of Nasarawa and his team take up this task of infrastructural development project in the aid to the realization of the state development agenda goals? This piece is clarion call, though Governor A.A Sule his working drastically to reduced the level of infrastructure deficits in the state. Our case is for his administration, to do better as leveraging on infrastructure development remains at the peak of unlocking the economy of the state less barrier.

  • 2023 : Gov. Sule will get easy ride, says Nasarawa Speaker

2023 : Gov. Sule will get easy ride, says Nasarawa Speaker

    From Leo Nzwanke, Lafai

“…as citizens trooped out to receive the Governor in a ground style when he returns from foreign trip…”

HE WILL BE A TWO TERM GOVERNOR.

Although the 2023 general election is still far ahead in the country, but the scenario in Nasarawa State this Saturday has signalled the political dimension in the state.

In what looks like a political campaign of sort and a general acceptance of a leader, the people of Nasarawa State across the 13 Local Government Areas in the state from Karu, the boundary LG with FCT, citizens converged in various LG borders to give the state number one man a befitting welcome.

The Speaker of the state assembly, Rt. Hon.Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who received the Governor at welcome to Lafia alongside prominent sons and daughters of the state said the show of love and solidarity for the Governor demonstrated by the people of the state has clearly shown that his leadership is fruitful and generally accepted by the entire citizens.

“You will recall that precisely two weeks ago the Governor was out of the country for a private trip abroad, we mist him and he is now back so we are here to give him a well deserved welcome.

“He is the leader of the state, our father, he is the Governor, so we thanked Almighty Allah, who protect and see him safely throughout the trip”

“His returned will bring more peace, bring more prosperity and bring more development to our dear state.

” With what you and I and every other person see today, how the Governor, Engr.Abdullahi A Sule was overwhelmingly received, you know that by the Grace of God, he will be a two term governor that will get his reelection in 2023 at a easy ride. the Speaker added.

It was gathered that citizens of the state both the high and the low came out in their numbers at boundaries of each Local Government and received the Governor in a ground style.

  • Launched NLTP: An Endorsement of AA Sule Governance Paradigm

Launched NLTP: An Endorsement of AA Sule Governance Paradigm

    By Adefolarin A. Olamilekan

Without doubt, the co-ordination of the system, people and the polity is the responsibility of government who is the custodian of the sovereignty of the entire citizenry which collectively and willingly they submitted to it return for peaceful and meaningful co-existence propelled by law and good governance.

It is therefore pertinent to say that the responsibility of government is to provide effective and efficient framework and enabling environment to enhance the social, physical, financial and general well being of the populace or efforts of the components of the state especially human being are effectively and efficiently galvanized toward productive activities and in the best interest of the state and citizens determines the extent of the “goodness” or otherwise of its government.

President Buhari’s administration has deliberately initiated the NLTP to develop the livestock sub-sector that was not given proper attention in the past.

Penultimate, the Federal Government of Nigeria launched the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) in the Awe Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State.

One cardinal objective of NLTP is to ensure that herders stay in a confide place to develop their economy with the government providing the necessary environment and support just like it is supporting other sectors.

Another is it would succeefully reduce the increasing farmers herders crisis and other criminality in the country.

The NLTP ranching project in Awe LGA of Nasarawa State is on 22,000 hectares of land. Meanwhile the NLTP over 360 households in Awe were captured to benefits in the project. Similarly, the NLTP ranching project in Awe LGA of Nasarawa State would provide technical assistance and desirable amenities suitable of a contemporary reaching scheme.

Fundamentally, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State keying into the inventiveness of FG NLTP ranching project. For instance, the NLTP project is one of latest model to deal with the security troubles connected with open grazing.Admittedly, it also am approach in tackling dilemma in Nasarawa/Benue boarders.

Critically, Governor AA Sule governance style and brand depicts a leadership quality in actualization of public opinion through representative government. His brand of governance adhere to constitutional responsibility, and promote checks and balances among various arms of the government; ensured stable government, equitable sharing of economic resources and guard fundamental human rights.

Arguably, weak leadership can deprive the people of development and service delivery. Since May, 2019, Governor AA Sule has demonstrated capacity through his brand of leadership translating into developmental strides. Evidence of this is found his first 100 days administration and many more in just two years of his stewardship to our dear state.

Debatably, there are still huge rooms for improvement and greater opportunities abound for Governor AA Sule and his team.Moreso, they must take responsibility by creating legacy that would outlive his administration.Besides, the success of AA Sule, is nothing but for posterity and Nasarawa state greatness.

  • Case of Governor AA Sule closing the space between Govt and Youths

Case of Governor AA Sule closing the space between Govt and Youths

    By Adefolarin A. Olamilekan

Conversely, half of the world’s population is under 25 years old; as 40 per cent of it under 19. Equally this has shown that we have younger generation than the older generations out there. To this end this is a cause for worry but it also a ray of hope for the future.

However, it has been said that young people are always at the centre of public advancement once the opportunity is avail them.

This now bring us to core of this piece, charging the Nasarawa state government under the leadership of our amiable Governor AA Sule administration closing the gap between his administration and youths in the state.

It is reassuring in any case that the Governor AA Sule administration has committed to youth programmes model to treat young people as an assets and resource.

Under Governor AA Sule administration more youths are now assuming leadership roles, especially in their LGAs and communities level. The recent APC LGAs and Ward Councillorship attest to this, as well as appointments.

It is on records that Nasarawa state can boost of shining youths with great skills and intellects.

Nonetheless, the developmental challenges in Nasarawa state today are particularly intricate and interconnected one such is given greater space for youth development and aspiration

Interestingly, we have listen to Governor in the person of Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule that will not allow a developmental thrust driven by competing political, social and economic, religious and cultural even party affiliation forces.

Convincingly, he in his capacity should be able to establish a system that works to a considerable degree in bringing Nasarawa state young people into a new reality of governance.

Simply put, the phenomenon of governance in today Nasarawa state cannot avoid its teeming young people helping to solve and contributing in our challenges in the state.

One of slang of youth l comes to appreciate “there is no time for no time”

Thus, it is never late; we must bring to the fore our hands in collaboration with Governor AA Sule administration leading in our state developmental strides

Nevertheless, envisioning and working toward a state of affairs where young people of Nasarawa state male and female alike take action and make an impact on vital state as well as there community issues. Meanwhile, we believe Governor AA Sule administration is so concerned about the development of Nasarawa state our case is to factor at the centre young people.

And this we accept as true to Governor AA Sule in his administration blue print of development. Poignantly, “Engagement” is the key, this in our “Modest” submission.

  • Open Letter to Governor A A Sule

Open Letter to Governor A A Sule

    Tel. 08073814436, 08107407870

    Dear Governor Sule,

Am writing this open letter to you as a keen observer of your administration, residing in Nasarawa State, a political economist and development researcher. Moreso, as a Nigerian with profound concern over the current hanging industrial labour disputes in the state.

I send you this open letter in the hope that you would read it since it would be published in national dailies and online platforms.

The underlying issues this open letter address is precisely predicated on three center of attention resting on the industrial labour disputes in the state. First, is that it is one of the oldest and most deep-seated issues in Nigerian governance and politics. Secondly, it is an ideological one that stems from neoliberal instrument and, lastly, it’s about operationalisation of finance in terms of what comes to state purse from Federal Allocation Committee and the state Internal generated Revenue.

As a resident in Masaka area of Karu LGA in the state, your desire for infrastructural development is laudable, that is convincing enough for residents and indigenes to appreciate. Meanwhile, your drive to ensure Nasarawa state become an industrial hub in North Central zone is plausible to the general economy health of Nigeria, to engage youth employment, income generation and poverty reduction. Your impressive concern for civil servants welfare and development demonstrate commitment to a professional civil service with 21st century facts and imminent. This you ensure at the inception of your administration.

Persuasively, industrial disputes are one of the oldest and most deep-seated issues in Nigerian governance and politics. This scenario existed long before Nigeria got independence in 1960s, overrun through military adventure into our politics and birthed dangerously in the last 22 years of uninterrupted democracy we valued as fourth republic. And this goes into our understanding of both economic and political forces has it’s impinges on workers welfare, the nature and character of the Nigerian state.

Am not here to lecture your Excellency on this, a perspective discussion would help, even although you prepared yourself intellectually in the flight to becoming governor of one of Nigerian most promising state.

Auspiciously, industrial disputes reoccurrences in Nigeria is basically because the class interest that drives the forces which stimulate the crises remained unchanged. Undeniably, the struggle for National Minimum wage was a drama of its own as the demand of N52, 000 by the workers was back down to N30, 000 from a crisis of negotiation.

In the prevailing circumstance this in particular is the burning point between your administration and workers in the state. Even, though you show commitment to state implementing from GL0 to 6, this labour union not comfortable with.

Industrial dispute globally is an ideological context that stems from of neoliberal enigma. This can be properly dissected on the controversial question of Wage and Wages. Wages is the amount paid for certain period of work or for a certain amount of work. Nevertheless, Karl Marx explicitly put it this way, wages are only a special name for the price of labour power, and are usually called the price of labour, it is the special name for the price of this peculiar commodity, which has no other repository than human flesh and blood. To this end is to see wage translate to better conditions of workers regular payment of salary and promotion

Neoliberals over the years, especially in the third world countries with particular reference to Nigeria have been on the fore fronts attacks on the workers. This is in a bid of economic principles handed over to their governments in respect to loan obtained from World Bank, International Monetary Fund and others. Ideally, loans could be obtained to ease domestics resources constraints in a country but the recklessness which loans are contracted in third world countries has made loans a clog in the wheel of development and social progress of the third world.

In fact; the policies to right size downsize and reform of the civil service from below are neoliberal agenda. I may not have enough space to expatiate on this, since this is just a letter. The imperative of ideological context is that, the civil servants in Nasarawa state have sowed in flesh and blood as there labour power. And this is the sacrifice of their life.

To the issue of operationalisation of finance in respects to the monies from federal allocation committee and the state internally generated revenue. This is all about distribution and redistribution of resources. The contentions here start from previous governors paying civil servant in percentages of which you overturned and start paying them full salary.

I commend you for that, even though you meet the problem on ground especially the issue of arrears’ and promotion your administration is strategically trying to resolves.

Conversely, the controversies surrounding the amount received by your administration from FAAC, especially the allegation from Labour Union that your government received N4.5 billion on monthly basis to me is what is fueling the crisis.

In Nigeria today no state government would agree to have enough to upset the monthly wage bill of state civil service, as many would cites poor revenues and blotted civil service. When state government hold on to these two things are bound to happen, nonpayment of workers’ salaries or industrial dispute in the form of strikes by workers.

In conclusion, your Excellency, l have no doubt that your administration have good intention for civil servants in Nasarawa state , am positive that you would not just end this strike by workers, but you put robust measures in place to foster future occurrence in Nasarawa state.

On the other hand, here is my modest suggestion, kindly, published what your administration received from FAAC on monthly basis, established an adhoc committee on labour and government relations. Very apt to this is dialogue, dialogue and dialogue at every point in your administration.

    With, Respected Special Regards.
