APC Clarifies Position on Tinubu 2027 Re-election Billboard in Abuja

    By   Milcah    Tanimu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has addressed the recent appearance of a billboard in Abuja that promotes President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

The billboard, prominently displayed at the Area One axis of the Federal Capital Territory, features the message: “Grassroots support for Tinubu 2027, the 1019 initiative,” accompanied by images of President Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu. The display has sparked widespread discussions and debates.

Responding to the situation, Bala Ibrahim, the APC National Publicity Director, clarified that the party is not responsible for the billboard campaign. Ibrahim acknowledged the billboard’s existence but emphasized that the APC had no prior knowledge of it. He suggested that the campaign could be the work of independent groups or individuals who support the President.

“At the party and personal level, I am not aware. If you have seen it, you may wish to check. It could have been done by a group or individuals,” Ibrahim explained in a statement to Punch.

Ibrahim also noted that billboards typically include information about their sponsors. He implied that if the billboard lacks official APC identification, it is not an initiative from the party itself.

President Tinubu is currently in his second year of a four-year term and has not yet announced any official plans to seek re-election in 2027.

Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, recently voiced her concerns about Nigerians who choose to migrate abroad in search of better opportunities. In a circulating video, Tinubu criticized the trend, suggesting that many Nigerians end up accepting jobs overseas that they would reject in their homeland.

She highlighted the paradox where highly educated individuals from Nigeria pursue menial jobs abroad, contrasting with their reluctance to undertake similar roles domestically. Tinubu urged her fellow citizens to extend more assistance to the less fortunate within their communities, stressing the importance of self-reliance rather than dependence on government aid.

Tinubu also underscored the potential of agricultural production to bolster Nigeria’s economy during a meeting with Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations. Emphasizing the Renewed Hope Initiative’s contributions to agriculture, empowerment, education, health, and social welfare, Tinubu aligned these efforts with her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Advocating for greater accountability in resource management, Tinubu praised the President’s decisions aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s global standing. She emphasized the importance of instilling a sense of national identity and responsibility in the youth, urging them to prioritize Nigeria’s interests above regional affiliations.

Addressing the issue of internally displaced persons (IDPs), Tinubu highlighted the Renewed Hope Initiative’s monthly food outreach program targeting IDPs and persons with disabilities. Despite challenges, she reaffirmed her commitment to serving the people and expressed determination to continue her efforts unabated.

In response, Amina Mohammed outlined the UN’s focus on securing increased funding for youth, women, and girls in Nigeria, signaling a collaborative approach to address pressing societal issues.

The First Lady, joined by Mrs. Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, extended their assurance that Rebecca would be well taken care of. Mrs. Tinubu expressed her commitment to ensuring Rebecca’s physical and emotional well-being, and she affirmed that the girls still in captivity are not forgotten.

Mrs. Tinubu offered her gratitude to the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and other entities involved in the successful rescue of Rebecca Kabu.

In a statement, it was shared that Senator Oluremi Tinubu received Rebecca Kabu at the presidential villa. The First Lady stated her determination to provide Rebecca with proper medical care and support, helping her to recover fully and return to school voluntarily.

Mrs. Tinubu also revealed her interest in Rebecca’s case and her plans to ensure that Rebecca becomes one of the first beneficiaries of her NGO, Renewed Hope Initiative. The NGO aims to facilitate the return of matured girls to school to receive a quality education.

The First Lady highlighted the importance of education as a tool for empowering young women to integrate into society and uphold the legacies of their predecessors. She expressed her hope for the safe return of all children still held by Boko Haram and conveyed her anticipation of Rebecca’s joyful reunion with her parents.

Rebecca Kabu, who was kidnapped at the age of 13 in 2014 and has now reached 22 years of age, was rescued on July 17 by Nigerian government security agencies. She underwent thorough medical and psychological evaluations to ensure her well-being and readiness for reintegration with her family.

Rear Admiral Yaminu Musa, the Coordinator Counter Terrorism Centre at the NSA, shared that Rebecca’s recovery marked a significant step forward. He conveyed that the next phase of the process involves reuniting Rebecca with her family and incorporating her into a government-supported education program, along with 15 other rehabilitated girls who were also rescued.

The First Lady concluded the event by offering her support to Rebecca, acknowledging her recent challenges, and assuring her that she would overcome language barriers. Rebecca, with gratitude, responded softly to the First Lady, and the occasion celebrated her resilience and the hope for a brighter future.
