    Most of the Suspects arrested with offences that contravened the electoral act will be prosecuted by INEC legal team in line with the provisions of the electoral acts.

    Other Offences under penal code were charged to court by the police.

    Sokoto State Police Command Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security management have during the conduct of the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Sokoto State, recorded cases and effected arrest of persons that violated the movement restriction order and other offences that contravened the electoral act such as vote buying, destruction of ballot boxes, political thuggery, threats and inciting public disturbances at Polling units among others.

    Statement by the PPRO Sanusi Abubakar said during this period a total number of 79 suspects were arrested. All the electoral offenses among them were fully investigated and transferred over to INEC for prosecution while others that contravene the penal code have been charged to court by the police. However there are others that are still under investigation.

    In view of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police Sokoto State Command CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel enjoin all members of the public to be wary of allowing themselves, their love ones or their political party affiliates from getting involve in actions that are totally repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience of law especially in view of the forthcoming supplementary elections in the State.

    The Security agencies in the state is assuring that they are committed to protection of lives and property and all elements of insecurity will not be spared before, during and after the forthcoming excercise in the state.

    The Police Command in Sokoto State has scheduled Sept. 26, for the commencement of screening exercise to successful applicants for the 9th Regular Course Intake of the Nigeria Police Academy Wudil, Kano state.

    This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen in Sokoto by the command Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) DSP Sanusi Abubakar.

    According to Abubakar the exercise is an automated screening for physical and credentials to the applicants who successfully completed their online application for the Course.

    “The screening will commence on Monday Sept. 26, to Saturday Oct. 1 at the Command’s Headquarter, by 8:00 am daily.

    “Therefore all successful applicants should take note of basic screening requirements that include, evidences of physical/mental fitness and good character from government hospital and village head respectively.

    “Also they are to come alone with indigene certificate, National Identity slip, original and photocopy of credentials, Birth certificate printout of application form and invitation slip,” he said.

    The PPRO added that any applicant who fails to present the items specified will not be considered for the screening exercise.

    In the same vein, the Commissioner of Police in the state Mr Muhammed Usaini Gumel, advised all applicants to be wary of criminal elements who may want to take undue advantage of the exercise to perpetrate scam.

    Gumel restated that the recruitment process is free without any pecuniary obligations and warned that anyone found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

    The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police Muhammed Usaini Gumel  held meeting with heads of Media executives in Sokoto State as political campaigns begins for the 2023 general elections.

     The CP highlighted the Command’s determination to ensure absolute control of critical issues likely to triggers electoral violence and the need to partner with all media executives in the state. 

    As contained in a release by the command’s spokesman, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, it is important to analyze the root causes of electoral violence and to examine best practices towards preventing it. 

    It said the Command already warn all political gladiators during its colloquium with critical stakeholders in the state to abide by the electoral laws in the aspect of dishing out hate speeches and other related offences bordering on campaigns and elections.

    Similarly, the Command developed some jingles in collaboration with the Zonal Directorate of National Broadcasting Commission and Media executives in Sokoto to be airing them on their various platforms to sensitize the public on the danger of hate speeches and carrying arms during campaign.

    The representative of all media executives in Sokoto State highlighted so many issues and made their contributions during the meeting.

     They equally pledged their unalloyed commitment and as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to be airing those  jingles as issues of national interest is key to the development of our dear nation.

    It also said in the spirit of Security Collaboration, the State Director of Security also witness the occasion and emphasized that, the media have a critical role to play and encourage all and sundry to always verify fake news reportage.

    Unconnected with the mandate of Quick Reaction Force recently launched by the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, code named X-Squad, it is aimed at quick respond to emergencies.

    Addressing newsmen, the Commissioner said it is in pursuance of this mandate, the police Command on the 02/09/2022 responded to a distress call by one of the migrants named Precious Oke, who was trapped at Illela border town heading to neighboring Niger Republic on their way to Italy. 

    In her statement to the police during a distress call, Miss Precious stated that she noticed that while her handler was making effort to smuggle her across the border, she sighted police patrol and the handler directed her to go into hiding which she complied.

    Therein, she made a call to Sokoto Police Command Public Relations Ofiicer who immediately alerted the Vigilant Police Patrol Team at Illela where Precious was traced and rescued.

    According to her, she met over 50 victims awaiting transportation to the same destination. 

    The Quick Response Force arrested the two facilitators, one at Illela and the other at Sokoto metropolis. 

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner said concerted effort is ongoing to round up all members of the cartel.

    …. as he undertakes operation visit to banditry areas 

    The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel in his effort towards strengthening the existing security strategies for quick return of peace in the state had on 31/08/22 began tour of operation and inspection to Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Rabah and Wurno. 

    The statement by the Police spokesman, DSP Sanusi Abubakar said the Commissioner equally undertook on-the-spot assessment of Kwanar Maharba, Kai Ka Zaka, Unguwar Lalle and Tsamaye in Sabon Birni axis being among the notorious points for bandits ambush/ attacks in recent times. 

    It said the objective of the tour is to review the existing strategies and reinforce police deployments at those locations with a more operational facilities that can safeguard citizens plying the roads. 

    During the visit, the CP delivered lecture to police men, visiting PMF personnel and relevant actors of security industry urging them to improve operational activities and work together under one umbrella of restoring peace and security in the areas. 

    The Cp also commended all community efforts, sacrifices and dedication especially by the traditional institutions and non state actors to the ongoing operation against banditry and other related crimes.

     He however interface with Critical Stakeholders at various communities and assured them of the ongoing efforts by government and security agencies towards tackling the current insecurity situation bedeviling the state.

    The Cp also extended the visit to Gandi in Rabah local Government where he sympathized with the IDP’s and presented some palliatives to them and craved their indulgence assuring them that the narrative will soon change for the better.

    Similarly, the CP who’s determined to review crime fighting strategies in the state, launched a tactical unit known as *X-SQUAD* to serve as additional Anti Violence Quick Reaction Striking Force of the Command and to attend to all emergencies and to complement the existing tactical units.

     The squad according to the statement will work with the native and intelligence community to implement strategy that will rid the state from all forms of criminal activities and keep away criminal elements.

     The Squad is also saddled with the mandate to checkmate unprofessional attitude, brutality and other misconduct among others inline with best practices policing agenda.
