Taraba Comm. laments over the killing of 3 policemen, a​ woman

The Taraba araba state Commissioner for budget and economic planning,​ Hon Solomon Elisha on Tuesday lamented over the killing of three policemen and a woman in a fresh crisis that erupted​ between Itchen and Ndaka tribes in Kurmi Local Government Area of the state.

Elisha, while speaking to Daybreak news in Jalingo during an exclusive​ interview, expressed sadness that it was unfortunate that brothers chose to take arms against them.

He noted that instead of facing the economic crisis that crippled the activities of the two communities,​ people chose to fight over issues that has no benefit.

He stressed that it was a wrong thing for brothers to choose not to co-exist peacefully.

“When this issue started,​ the state government was on top of the situation and stakeholders have been talking to various groups.

I as an Ichen man from Kurmi, I have spoken to my people to lay down their arms and resolve whatsoever is the issue” he said.

He informed that governor Ishaku during his​ recent visit to Kurmi spoke to the two wearing parties which they agreed to co-exist and leave in oneness.

The Commissioner who is a stakeholder from Kurmi LGA of the state commended​ the administration of Governor Ishaku in ensuring that peace continues to reign.

He added that with the​ setting up of the commission of inquiry,​ all the lingering issues causing chaos​ between the two tribes would soon be put to rest.

Our correspondent report that Taraba Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Usman Abdullahi on Tuesday confirmed the killing of three policemen and a woman in the crisis between Itchen and Ndaka tribes in Kurmi Local Government Area of the state.

The PPRO told Newsmen in Jalingo that the officers were overpowered by a yet to be identified militia group and killed in Bissaula village​ on Saturday following a bloody clash between the two ethnic groups.​ ​

Abdullahi disclosed that the yet-to-be-identified militiamen who carried out the attack also killed an elderly woman and destroyed property worth millions of naira.
