The period of abandoned projects is over, Wike assures Kwali residents

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike on Wednesday assured the people of Kwali Area Council that the period of abandoned projects is over in Kwali and indeed all the area Councils.

He said, ” Since you people have requested that all abandoned projects in Kwali should be completed, I am giving the assurance, go home and sleep because l will do it. You must get quality things from us.”

Wike gave this assurance at the flag-off of the construction of the Yangoji- Sukuku- Ebo 11 kilometre road leading to Kuje Area Council.
The minister emphasized that rural people also deserve good roads and in addition 24 schools which have been identified in the six Area Councils and Primary Health Care Centers, PHCs.

He said, ” we are all going to work together, it does not matter which party you belong to. This is the first time we are driving development to the people.”
” That is why the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, means that so many people have lost hope and this administration is saying l am bringing back hope. I am here to give you back your hope.”

“Mr. President has asked me to go and interface with the people, what you are experiencing now is temporary, things will bounce back.”

“He said, “FCT people, this is your own turn to benefit. We will not be tired of coming to meet you from time to time. In fact, if there was anyway to relocate and stay with you and understand how you feel, we will do it.”

The minister enjoined the people to continue to support the Area Councils and “Asiwaju”, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration so that he will be able to fulfil all the promised he has made.”

”  Continue to pray for him for God to give him the strength, the health any the wisdom because it is not easy.”

.He urged the contractor, Gilmor , to employ youths who are ready to work , as he promised to pay them and provide security.

According to Wike, because  of the availability of funds for contract awards , contractors in the FCT no longer wait for mobilization before moving to the sites, due to the renewed confidence they now have in the  administration.

Wike was conferred with the title” Kauran of Kwali” meaning the leader or he who is in front , by the Kwali traditional institution and he was decorated with the Sword of Office.

While thanking the Area Council Chairmen and the people of Yangoji- for coming out enmasse to support the government and the project been carried out for the community, stated that this shows that they are happy with project and are committed to defend and own it.

The Chairman, Kwali Area Council, Hon. Danladi Chiya, who is also the ALGON Chairman, thanked the Minister for the project and called for the completion of previously abandoned projects in the Council.

Hon. Chiya noted that the road which will lead to Kuje Area Council, will, on completion make it easy for farmers to transport their goods to neighbouring Area Councils as well as enhance security in the council.

The coordinator, STDD, Olusegun Olusa, in his overview of some projects recalled that the FCT Administration had earlier flagged off the construction of the 7.2 kilometer Paikon Kore-Ibwa road in Gwagwalada, in addition to the 9km Gaba-Tokulo road in Bwari as well as a 5km dual carriageway in Kuje area Council.

He added that with these projects, rural communities in the FCT are now beginning to feel the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Olusa, the scope of work for the Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo road will consist of the construction an 11km asphaltic road on 8 meter carriageway which also include site clearance and earthwork, reinforced concrete pipe culverts of various sizes, 150mm thick crushed stone-base course, among others.
