After years of neglect by past administrations, the Nigerian government has endorsed the establishment of a Federal University in Southern Kaduna. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly approved the proposal for the university, as revealed by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Shettima disclosed this development during a condolence visit to the Kukah family over the passing of Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, a relative of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah.

He stated, “With Senator Katung and members of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna.”

The Vice President further emphasized the administration’s commitment to the development of Southern Kaduna, citing the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of the government’s focus on the region’s security needs.

“Shettima also assured that the federal government, in partnership with the state government, would prioritize infrastructure development, especially road networks, in Southern Kaduna. “President Tinubu has the people of Kaduna, especially those in Southern Kaduna, at heart,” he said.

Additionally, Shettima shared that discussions were ongoing regarding the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

Bishop Matthew Kukah expressed gratitude on behalf of his family for the Vice President’s visit, acknowledging the region’s infrastructure challenges. “It took you about three and a half hours to get here, as the road is largely broken. We appreciate your support for our community,” he said.
