Tinubu Govt Starts New Minimum Wage Payments

By   Milcah  Tanimu

The new minimum wage in Nigeria 2024 officially takes effect today, as the federal government begins paying civil servants on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC) announced that payments for the new minimum wage would apply retroactively to July 2024.

Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, confirmed that civil servants will start receiving their updated salary alerts today.

President Bola Tinubu approved the wage adjustment after the National Assembly passed the bill, responding to inflation and the rising cost of living for workers. This wage increase aims to enhance the financial stability of civil servants across Nigeria, boosting their purchasing power and contributing to economic growth.

The National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission emphasized that the wage hike applies from July 2024, when the President signed it into law.
