Tinubu Leads Federal Executive Council Meeting

Must read

President Bola Tinubu is presently presiding over the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

In attendance are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Head of Service, Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan, and approximately 45 ministers for the administration’s 10th FEC meeting.

During today’s session, the council will deliberate on a memorandum seeking approval for the “revamping of the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund,” as observed by the press.

This adjustment in the agenda was noted by the SGF before the President’s arrival, replacing item #3 with ‘Approval for the revamping of the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund.’

Tinubu inaugurated the FEC on August 28, 2023, shifting meetings from Wednesdays to Mondays officially.

According to Article 144 (5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Federal Executive Council is recognized as the body of Ministers of the Government of the Federation established by the President to handle government responsibilities as directed.

The council’s role includes policy formulation, project execution, and advising the President on executive functions.

Operating under the Cabinet Affairs Office of the SGF, the council comprises the President, Vice President, and appointed ministers.

As per Article 148 (2) of the Constitution, the President is required to seek advice or act on recommendations from other constitutionally mandated advisory bodies, such as the Council of State and the National Security Council.

Despite the weekly schedule, the Tinubu-led cabinet has convened only 10 times in the past 31 weeks since its inauguration.

On October 16, 2023, Information Minister Mohammed Idris clarified that FEC meetings would now occur on Mondays but may be skipped if there are no items for discussion.
