A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Deco Road in Warri, Delta State, as a heavy-duty 12-tyre truck tragically crushed a middle-aged man to death. What makes this tragedy even more harrowing is that it occurred right in front of the man’s wife and their residence.
The couple had just returned from an outing in the Okumagba Estate area and was in the process of crossing the road to their home, located opposite the bypass. They had disembarked from a commercial tricycle (keke) when the horrifying accident took place.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the truck driver was maneuvering the bypass when the left side of the rear tires struck the unsuspecting man, climbing over him and causing devastating injuries to his head and upper body.
The gruesome scene left onlookers in shock as the man’s head and upper body became trapped between the left side of the truck’s rear tires. To recover the victim’s remains, a heavy-duty jack had to be employed to lift the truck’s back tires.
The man’s wife had crossed the road before the accident occurred, but upon witnessing the horrific scene, she reportedly fainted. To shield their young children from the grisly sight, they were prevented from seeing their father’s mangled, lifeless body being extracted from beneath the truck.
Upon arriving at the accident site, journalists found residents and passers-by discussing the incident, deeply affected by the tragedy that had unfolded before them.
The Delta Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed this unfortunate incident.
