Tragic Discovery: Premature Baby Found Dead at Rivers University

A premature infant was tragically discovered deceased in front of a female hostel at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Port Harcourt.

Reports indicate that the male infant, wrapped in cloth, was abandoned by an unidentified individual on Saturday morning.

According to witnesses, the baby, estimated to be between six and seven months old, was left near the Rumulumeni campus of the university in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

An anonymous student recounted, “I woke up in the morning and heard commotion everywhere, prompting me to rush outside. To my shock, I found a premature baby of about six months in a pit with blood and the placenta.”

Another source suggested that the baby’s mother could be a student seeking to dispose of the child.

“A lady from the hostel abandoned a baby near Salvation Hostel at Ignatius Ajuru University. The baby, still covered in fresh blood, appears to be around six months old,” the source revealed.

University spokesperson Dr. Ngozi Okiridu confirmed the incident, indicating that it’s uncertain whether the child belonged to a student. However, the matter has been reported to the police, and the baby has been laid to rest.

While Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, acknowledged awareness of the incident from social media, she stated that confirmation from the Divisional Police Officer was pending.
