Tribunal sacks Kano NNPP Rep Yerima

The election of Muktar Umar Yerima of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the House of Representatives member for Tarauni Federal Constituency has been nullified by a National and State House of Assembly elections petition tribunal in Kano.

Ruling on the petition brought by Hafizu Kawu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a three-man panel of the tribunal led by Justice I.P. Chima, stated that Yerima was not qualified to qualify to occupy the position as he reportedly forged the primary school certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The tribunal which ruled that NNPP had no candidate in the election and all the votes cast for Yerima were wasted votes, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued to Yerima.

The ruling was made after the primary school, Hausawa Primary School disowned the certificate rendered by the sacked lawmaker.
