Two Years on: Governor Mutfwang Fulfills Commitment

By Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, mni, Plateau State Commissioner of Information and Communication

As Governor Caleb Mutfwang clocked his second-year anniversary in office, it is clear and manifest that he has been working tirelessly to fulfill his ambitious campaign promises to the people of PlateauState.

Despite the complexities and challenges that come with governance, Mutfwang has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to transforming the state’s infrastructure, economy, and social fabric.

One of the most notable areas where Mutfwang has made a significant impact is in infrastructure development with a view to realizing his urban renewal agenda for Jos, the capital city and indeed the entire state. The ongoing renovation of the iconic Hill Station Hotel through Public Private Partnership (PPP) that will see the state receive the facility subsequently once investors recoup their share of funds, is a project of immense historical and cultural significance and remains a testament to the governor’s vision for a revitalized tourism sector. Although still a work in progress, this project promises to restore the hotel’s former glory and position it as a hub for tourism and economic activity. Similarly, the renovation of Plateau Hotel, if completed, has the capacity to not only restore its former splendour but also position it as a vibrant center for tourism and economic growth.

The revamping of the Wildlife Park has also provided a much-needed boost to the state’s tourism sector, creating opportunities for recreation and employment. The governor’s administration has also invested heavily in road infrastructure, with several major projects aimed at improving connectivity and facilitating economic growth already commissioned. The reconstruction of Rayfield network roads, rehabilitation of the road from Bukuru Low-cost to Sabon Barki and construction of the road and flyover from Utonkon to Abattoir are just a few examples of the many projects that have either been commissioned or are ongoing.

These projects have not only improved the quality of life for residents but also enhanced the state’s attractiveness to investors. The procurement of more buses and launching of the Metro 2.0 has provided relief to commuters, drastically cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal on transport costs. The acquisition of coastal buses for Plateau Riders has also improved the state’s public transportation system.

The governor’s commitment to improving the environment is also evident in the efforts to enhance sanitation in Jos metropolis. Through the Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (AGENCY), Jos and environs have been given a facelift, a sharp departure from the years of neglect that threatened to take away the soul of the city and discourage visitors from Nigeria’s finest tourism destination. The planting of ornamental plants all over the city has not only beautified the environment but also contributed to cleaner and healthier communities.

Mutfwang’s administration has also taken steps to address the state’s financial challenges. Having inherited a huge debt burden in the region of up to half a trillion naira, the captain of “The Time is Now” administration has downsized this huge debt burden once taken and squandered with little to nothing the people can point at as evidence of such indebtedness. The clearing of salary arrears has improved the welfare of civil servants, and significantly restored fiscal discipline in all spheres of government.

However, Governor Mutfwang’s tenure has not been without its challenges. The series of attacks in Riyom, Bokkos, Mangu and Bassa Local Government Areas, well documented by all Nigerians have presented a significant test of his leadership. Despite these challenges, Mutfwang has shown remarkable empathy and forthrightness with the people, prioritizing their safety and security above all else.

In response to these attacks, the governor has invested heavily in security, working closely with security agencies to secure lives and property. This proactive approach demonstrates his commitment to protecting the people of Plateau State and ensuring their well-being.

One of the most significant achievements of Mutfwang’s administration is the fostering of unity among Plateau political office holders, irrespective of party affiliation and religion. This has created a sense of stability and cooperation, which is essential for the state’s progress.

As the Mutfwang-administeration marks its second-year anniversary, it is clear that he has made significant progress in delivering on his campaign promises. While there is still much work to be done, the governor’s resolve to transforming Plateau State is evident in the many projects and initiatives that have been launched.

With ongoing projects such as the construction of roads from Tudun Wada to Mado, Little Rayfield to Sabon Barki, Utan-farin gada, Pandam fish farm road, Anglo Jos to Gwarandok, internal roads in Mangu, Pankshin and Jos East Local Government Areas among others, it is clear that Mutfwang is determined to build a better future for the people of Plateau State.

*A New Era of Development*

Under Mutfwang’s leadership, Plateau State is experiencing a new era of development. The governor’s administration has brought a sense of purpose and direction to the state’s governance, with a clear focus on delivering on campaign promises rather than building an imaginary headquarters of talkshop.

The people of Plateau State are beginning to reap the benefits of this leadership, with improved infrastructure, transportation and social services. As the state continues to evolve, it is likely that the current administration will face new challenges and opportunities.

However, with his forthrightness to transparency, accountability and good governance, the people of Plateau State can be confident that their interests are being represented. The governor’s leadership style, which emphasizes collaboration and inclusivity, has also helped to build trust and confidence in the system.

*Looking to the Future*

On the Governor’s second-year anniversary, it is evident that he is looking to the future with optimism and renewed enthusiasm. With ongoing initiatives, the governor is poised to build on the progress that has been made so far.

The people of Plateau State can expect even more significant transformations in the years to come, as Mutfwang continues to work tirelessly to fulfill his commitments. In the coming years, the current government under his watch will focus on even more audacious and ambitious projects and initiatives aimed at transforming the state and improving human capital development.

The governor’s vision for Plateau State is clear, and he is determined to make it a reality. With his leadership, the state is on an upward trajectory. It was Alan Kay who said the “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” And here is a man in Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang leading the way.
