Unknown Persons Dig Ditch On Akure Airport Runway

Reports reaching our newsroom indicates that flights from Akure Airport, the Ondo state capital have been grounded.

Angry protesters have reportedly dug a ditch over the runway of the airport to prevent flights from landing or taking off.

Our reporter who visited the scene said a crater was deliberately dug across the runway and is about a foot deep.

Withnesses and airport staff who spoke to Daybreak on condition of anonymity said they saw the crater on Monday money when many of them reported for work, indicating that the crater must have been dug on Sunday night under the cover of darkness.

As at the time of filing this report, the Akure airport was not operating any flight services and workers were seen in groups discussing the development.

Senior staff approached to comment on the incident kept a sealed lip saying they had no authorisation to do so.

Attempts to reach the spokes person of the FAAN Henrietta Yakubu, proved abortive as her phone was switched off
