Unscheduled visit: Kaduna Govt. queries absentee doctors at Rigasa General Hospital

Must read

Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe on Tuesday directed the management of Rigasa General Hospital, Kaduna to issue queries to doctors who were not duty when she visited the hospital.

Balarabe gave the directive when she paid unscheduled visit following reports of nonchalant attitude of some of the staff and the unkempt environment of the hospital.

She told the Chief Medical Director, Dr Maryam Abubakar that her visit was necessitated by an unpalatable Twit about the hospital and the staff, which the state government could not condoned.

She lamented the filthy nature of the hospital environment and absence of doctors to attend to patients in critical conditions.

“This is unacceptable; it is our responsibility to ensure our environment is clean. There is no moral justification for the hospital to be unkempt.

“As of 10:00am, aside the CMD, there is no any doctor on ground to attend to patients and there are some patients who require admission and laboratory tests,” she noted.

The deputy governor said that the attitude of the workers was not in tandem with what the state government wished the people, especially as healthcare was one of the priorities of the government.

She described the dump site of the hospital as terrible, noting that instead of dumping refuse inside the pit, refuse has littered the environment, predisposing people to infectious diseases.

“Instead of dumping refuse in the pit, it is scattered all over. The workers do not dispose used syringes in the safety boxes but in the dustbin which is likely to infect those responsible for handling the refuse,” she said.

The deputy governor told the CMD that the management had failed in the discharge of its responsibilities in spite of the resources provided to the hospital by the state government.

“From what I have seen, there is no adequate utilization of what has been made available to the hospital for the management to ask for more.

“I, therefore, urge the entire staff of the hospital to turn a new leaf in the way they relate with members of the public,” she said.

Balarabe said that the state Ministry of Health, which oversees the hospital, would soon meet with all the CMDs of hospitals across the state to fashion out ways to improve health facilities in the state.

On her part, Abubakar disclosed that the facility does not have adequate staff to cater for the challenges faced by the hospital.

“We are trying our best but we are also soliciting for more assistance from the government on this issue.

“We appreciate the visit and call for more of it in other government hospitals too, so as to put us all on our toes,” she CMD said. (NAN)
