The United States Embassy in Abuja has warned Nigerians about the grave consequences of visa fraud, stressing that providing false information or submitting forged documents could result in a permanent ban from entering the US.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the embassy said visa fraud carries severe penalties under US immigration law.
“Visa fraud has serious consequences. Lying or providing fake documents can lead to permanent visa bans. This means you will never go,” the statement read.
The warning came as US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, met with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, to discuss bilateral relations and areas of mutual cooperation.
According to the embassy, both officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration between the United States and Nigeria on issues of shared interest.
The engagement also comes amid heightened diplomatic focus on Nigeria’s internal security challenges. In recent months, some US lawmakers have raised concerns over attacks on communities, particularly in the North and Middle Belt regions, describing them as violations of religious freedom and calling for deeper cooperation between both governments to protect vulnerable groups.
