Verification Exposes 2,000 Ghost Workers in Akwa Ibom Civil Service

By Ogenyi Ogenyi, Uyo

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Akwa Ibom has revealed the discovery of over 2,000 ghost workers during a recent physical verification of the state’s civil servants. According to Comrade Alpha Marshall, Secretary of the NLC, more than 51,700 civil servants were verified out of 55,120 recorded before the exercise.

Marshall confirmed that the verification process was transparent and seamless, with the report prepared for submission to Governor Umo Eno. He also mentioned that a rescheduled verification would address issues with mismatched National Identification Number (NIN) details.

Despite this, Marshall emphasized that the report would be submitted to the Governor promptly. He expressed confidence that, once reviewed, civil servants would soon receive the new minimum wage of N80,000, as promised by Governor Umo Eno, effective from November last year.
