The recent arrest of social media critic Verydarkman has triggered widespread outrage across Nigeria, with many expressing concern over the circumstances surrounding his detention.
According to reports, Verydarkman was arrested on Friday, May 1, shortly after sharing a video of himself and his mother at a GTBank branch. In the clip, he explained that they were there to report an unauthorized deduction from his mother’s salary account for a loan she never took.
Following the incident, a Nigerian man identified as @WizardB4J on X (formerly Twitter) announced plans to withdraw all his funds from GTBank in protest. He expressed disappointment over the bank’s handling of the situation and questioned how a high-profile customer like Verydarkman could be treated unfairly within their premises.
“PLEASE REMOVE YOUR MONEY FROM @gtbank until they free VDM or we know his whereabouts,” he wrote, sharing a screenshot showing over N500,000 in his account. “Show SIGNS of Serious Protests! Somebody cannot be moved from your bank as BIG as VeryDarkMan… I don move d small savings I get there go my @palmpay_ng.”
His post has since gone viral, fueling further discussions online and drawing mixed reactions from other users—some joining his call, while others advised patience pending verified details of the arrest.
