The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) has dissociated itself from a planned annual conference in Abuja, describing the organisers as imposters who want to use the event to extort unsuspecting politicians

This is contain in a statement by the Commandant General of the corps Navy Capt Umar Bakori (rtd), and made available to news men

The full statement is reproduced below:

The attention of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) led by Navy Capt Umar Bakori (rtd), Commander General, has been drawn to a planned annual conference to be held in Abuja on the 29th of October, 2022 which was not authorised by the VGN.

The organisers of the fake gathering whose main objective is to extort money from unsuspecting politicians and members of the public has scheduled the event to hold at The Velodrome, MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja with the theme: Small Arms and Light Weapons proliferation and it’s threat to Nigeria’s internal security.

A video circulating online without a name listed His Excellency, Yahaya Bello, Governor of Kogi State as Chairman of the event including a traditional ruler and some retired military officers as guests.

The NEC of the VGN learnt that a dismissed soldier named Usman Mohammed Jahun and who has been parading as the Commander General of VGN is behind this fraudulent event.

The VGN hereby advise the general public to not deal with the said Usman Mohammed Jahun as he was suspended for embezzlement of about ₦1billion funds belonging to the VGN and the matter is currently being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).

The impostor Usman Mohammed Jahun has no certificate of registration, Trademark or logo of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, yet he has been organising training and collecting money on behalf of the organization and stashing the funds in his private bank accounts.

His nefarious activities was reported to security agencies and he rushed to court to seek elusive refuge but a court decision is being awaited.

The VGN appeals to the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the SSS to urgently investigate the activities of Usman Mohammed Jahun for dragging the VGN to work for the ruling All Progresives Congress, (APC) in violation of the constitution of the VGN and for acts capable of causing a breach of national security.

Signed
