Vote buying syndrome, inimical to Nigeria’s democracy – Ahmed-Chikaji

By Yomi Kareem, With agency report

Alhaji Fahad Ahmed-Chikaji, candidate contesting the seat in Kaduna State House of Assembly for Sabongari, has cautioned Nigerians against vote buying, saying the ugly trend could put the nation’s democracy in danger.

Ahmed-Chikaji, who is contesting on the platform of Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, gave the warning in an interview with NAN in Zaria, Kaduna State, yesterday.

He said the call became imperative in view of inducement of voters that had allegedly characterised elections in recent times.

Ahmed-Chikaji, who is the Chief Executive of an NGO, Arewa Youths Trust Foundation, AYTF, urged voters to elect credible candidates with proven integrity but not those who dole out money for votes.

‘‘I want to use this medium to call on Nigerians especially eligible voters to use their votes wisely by voting credible candidates of their choice.

‘‘They must ensure that they elect only candidates without questionable character, those with proven integrity, excellent records and those who can effectively deliver the good governance Nigerians deserve.”

He assured the people of Sabongari of quality representation towards taking the entire constituency to the next level of development.

He stressed the need for people of the area to rally round his party’s candidate to enable him actualise his dreams of changing the lives of poor masses for the better.

The candidate appreciated the support and encouragement he had been enjoying from the people of the area and urged them to sustain the tempo.

According to him, PRP is a party to beat come 2019, especially in lawmaking positions at both state and federal levels.

‘‘PRP is a party to beat, come 2019; however, we don’t have money to give but we have credible representation to offer to Nigerians. We have quality candidates vying for different positions.

‘‘I want to assure people that we are ready to sacrifice for the state and the nation at large,’’ he said.
