WAEC Introduces Resit Exams for WASSCE Candidates

By Abigail Philip David

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a new initiative allowing candidates to retake specific subjects of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as early as January and February 2025.

In a statement, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, explained that the program, dubbed **”WASSCE PC1″**, aims to provide a second chance for students needing to improve their results.

“Students who review their results and find they need to resit one or two papers can register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés by 8th January 2025. The exams will be held from 24th January to 15th February 2025,” Kapi stated.

He emphasized the importance of timely registration, noting that this initiative is designed to minimize academic delays for affected students. “This approach ensures efficiency and accessibility, allowing students to avoid losing an entire academic year,” Kapi added.

The registration process is entirely online, making it convenient for eligible candidates to sign up. WAEC has encouraged prospective participants to take full advantage of the resit opportunity.

Established in 1952, WAEC administers examinations in English-speaking West African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Liberia. The introduction of resit exams highlights the council’s commitment to supporting students and enhancing educational outcomes across the region.
