Wanda Diamond League: Amusan Claims Victory in 100m Hurdles, Sets New Record

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan made history on Sunday as she emerged victorious in the 100 meters hurdles event at the Wanda Diamond League held in Chorzó, Poland. Amusan, the current world record holder in women’s 100m hurdles, triumphed over American athletes Kendra Harrison and Ali Nia.

Not only did Amusan claim the top spot, but she also set a new meeting record and achieved a new season best with a remarkable time of 12.34 seconds. The race was intensely close, with Amusan narrowly crossing the finish line to secure her victory.

Kendra Harrison also clocked in at 12.34 seconds, sharing the same time as Amusan, while Ali Nia finished third with a time of 12.38 seconds. Jamaican athlete Megan Tapper secured fourth place with a time of 12.49 seconds.

After the race, Amusan expressed her satisfaction with the win, despite battling hamstring and knee injuries. She attributed her success to trust in her coach and hard work, emphasizing the importance of the process. Amusan admitted that she was unaware of her victory until crossing the finish line.

This exceptional performance follows Amusan’s recent comfortable victory in the Nigerian national trials held in Benin, where she clocked a time of 12.70 seconds despite wet conditions. Her consistent successes have earned her a place in the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where she will defend her world title and potentially her world record of 12.12 seconds.

Amusan’s outstanding achievements in the Wanda Diamond League and the Nigerian trials further solidify her status as a top contender in the world of women’s hurdles. As she prepares for the World Athletics Championships, she aims to maintain her impressive form and continue making her mark on the track.
