Why Kano Remained A centre for Democracy And Political Base

By Jabiru Hassan, Kano.

Kano state have a total of 44 local government areas, 484 wards where APC is now the only party that is having all the states councilors, council chairmen with their teaming appointees while at the state level it has a governor, deputy governor, commissioners, members of the executive councils and relevant appointees.

In a tradition in Kano, whenever the party is having a campaign rally, especially the presidential campaign, it is a mandate to all the elected and appointed or any political office holder to be at the gathering in order to fill the campaign venue so as to get the visitor agreed that he has a total support and popularity at the state.

Kano state people always accepted any candidate that visited the state on political rally because the state is still regarded as the centre of democracy and home of politics as seen for decades like what has been witnessed during the recent campaign Flagg of by APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu last Wednesday.

In addition, the 2023 general election would be different from the previous polls where the incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari enjoyed supports from all the Nigeria’s masses who are over 70% population, while the majority of the Nigerians citizens knows that Buhari have completed his tenure, and in this regard, all parties must try and work hard so as to earn similar supports.

It is interesting that in Kano state, the supports rendered to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu , would also be given to other major contenders like Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of NNPP because the state is the Nigeria’s political arena, where the crowds is not an indication that a candidate would win the state unless after polls.

was at the Sani Abacha Stadium where the mega rally was conducted, while most of the people that have an interaction with our correspondent mostly youths lamented that they were at the rally because their political leaders paid them to be at the place in order to fill the wide field for the candidate to agreed that he has full support in Kano.

In one of the presidential campaign rally in Kano recently, I have seeies of chats with some people mostly youths where Auwal Aminu from Sumaila local government area said that ” I came from Sumaila local government area and I was given money to come here but I am not an APC member and i will join the other rallies to have something because it is the only way we can get something from this politicians”.

Similarly, malama Binta from Rano local government area disclosed that they are 18 in number sponsored to attend the rally by a political office holder to ensure that the stadium is full of people for the presidential candidate to see and relax that he is gaining full supports in Kano adding that “we would also be here when Atiku, Peter Obi or Kwankwaso came for their rallies”.

In his remark, Malam Yunusa Tukur from Dawakin Tofa local government area who is also a current affairs commentator announced that “Kano is different from all other states. All the candidates would be received warmly in the state but during elections, they only elects a candidate they like or that of their political mentors , that is why nobody is 100% sure that he would certainly win Kano invtge forthcoming general elections”. He stressed.
