Wike approves the sum of N795,067,438.99K insurance cover for public assets in FCT

The FCT Minister Barr Nysome Wike has approved the sum of
N795,067,438.99 k for insurance cover for FCT movable and immovable assets for a period of 12 months.
The FCT Head of Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo disclosed this on Thursday after the first FCT Executive Meeting, EXCO held in Abuja.

While briefing newsmen, Adayilo announced that the FCT minister has signed the approval seeking for the award of contract for the provision of insurance cover for the combined all-risk insurance policy for the FCTA movable and immovable assets for 12 months.

She said,”for the combined all-risk insurance policy for the FCTA movable and immovable assets for 12 months.”
“And this will ensure government business continuity and minimize financial losses in the event of unforeseen incidents.”

Speaking futher, the FCT HoS said,” the memo on assests insurance aligns with a directive from the federal government’s direction under an Act and dated 21st July 2018,mandating the compulsory insurance of government assets, properties, buildings under construction and public fundings. It falls under the sections 64 and 65.”

Earlier, the Director, Department of Security Services, Adamu Gwary disclosed that after presentation at the Exco meeting, the FCT Minister Barr. Nyesmo Wike also approved the sum of 3.648 billion Naira for the construction of divisional police stations in the six Area Councils Councils across the FCT.

Gwary said, “Today’s memo presented the remaining three which make up two divisional headquarters in each of the six area councils totaling a sum of 3.648 billion.”
Gwary noted that the FCT Minister last year September had directed for the need for taking security close to the people by providing certain infrastructure which includes two new police divisional offices in each of the area councils to provide effective security for the people.

According to him, by fulfilling this promise is the provision of security infrastructure which includes the police divisional headquarters and police officers’ quarters to ensure that police are provided with all necessary requisite equipments to fight crime, particularly the security challenges at the area councils and the hinterland.

“The security facilities include the divisional headquarters and a six-man staff quarters for the police operatives in Kuje Area Council, Gwagwalada Area Council and Kwali Area Council.”

This is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda by providing effective, efficient and adequate security for the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Gwary explained.
The Director of Security Services in a self appraisal said that the Service has made significant progress in terms of reducing crime and criminality in the FCT.
” The statistic is going down and we want to maintain and ensure that such effort is being maintained to ensure all hands are on deck to reduce the number of crime and criminality to the barest minimum”, he emphasized .
