History was made on Tuesday when the FCT Minister, Barr. Nysome Wike after 16 years of neglect, finally commissioned the newly completed engineering infrastructure sited at Wuye District in Abuja.
Wike said that the completed project handled by the Arab Contractors was first awarded in August, 2009 to light up Wuye District for business and economic growth but since then it never saw the light of day.
The FCT minister said the project was abandoned for almost 16 years because of lack of funds before the advent of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2023 which revived it.
Wike hailed President Tinubu’s prowess in his commitment to Renewing the hope of Abuja residents.
He said that with Tinubu’s unprecedented record, he has shamed all nay sayers to his administration.
” I want to challenge everybody who will say in the history of our city, in every administration, who has beaten this record of the Renewed Hope agenda.”
“It shows a leadership that is committed. It shows leadership that is willing to change the lives of the people.”
The complain has always been, “this contract was awarded since 2009, but the Contractors abandoned the project because of lack of payment.”
“People often come to us to say this contract was awarded long ago. Yes, it was awarded in 2009, and yet it remained abandoned because there was no payment. From that time till 2023, nothing was done.”
“If there’s any administration since the creation of the Federal Capital Territory that has done more than what we are doing, let them speak up now. Their silence says it all — this is leadership that is committed, leadership that is changing lives.”
Wike stated that when Tinubu’s administration came on board, the President took immediate steps to revive the comatose project.
