Wike Slams Adeyanju, Calls Him “Jobless” Over Abuja Demolition Protests

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has sharply criticized lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju after Adeyanju led a protest against Wike’s recent demolition activities in Abuja.

Last week, Adeyanju and fellow activist Vincent Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan) led a demonstration condemning the demolition of Ruga, a settlement near Airport Road, calling for President Bola Tinubu to intervene. They claimed the demolitions lacked justification and held signs calling for Wike’s removal.

Responding to Adeyanju’s statements, Wike accused Adeyanju of seeking attention due to “joblessness.” In an interview, Wike recalled that Adeyanju had once requested the role of National Publicity Secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a request Wike personally denied. “This young boy from Kogi State wanted to be PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, and I said no. Now he’s turned to activism because he has no job,” Wike remarked.

Adeyanju, known for his advocacy in civil society, has not yet responded to Wike’s comments. The clash highlights growing tensions between government officials and activists over development policies in the FCT.
