Wizkid Pays Tribute to Late Mother on Her Posthumous Birthday

By  Milcah  Tanimu

Nigerian singer Wizkid has shared a touching tribute to his late mother, Morayo, on her first posthumous birthday. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter) on July 4, 2024, Wizkid expressed his deep emotions and love for his mother, highlighting the profound impact of her absence.

“Happy birthday, love of my life! I miss you every day. The first one without you here feels unreal. Nothing makes sense without you, mama! Life is empty without you. Continue to watch over us! My heart is broken forever! Love you, love love you, MORAYO mi. Your smile is a memory I will never forget. Your laugh! Your hugs and kisses. I miss you dearly!” Wizkid wrote.

He also announced that his upcoming album, dedicated to her, is the best work he has ever produced. “MORAYO!! Best album I ever made!! Now listen! It’s only up from here!” he added.

Wizkid’s mother, Jane Dolapo, passed away in the early hours of Friday, August 18, 2023, and was laid to rest on October 13, 2023. The intimate church service held in Lagos saw family members dressed in gold attire, grieving deeply for their loss.

Wizkid’s mother played a significant role in his rise to global stardom. She was a constant source of support, frequently attending his concerts and encouraging his musical pursuits. In his song “Joy,” Wizkid acknowledged her unwavering support with the lyrics, “When I was a little boy, mama told me, ‘My boy, chase your dreams and keep believing, and the sky will be your beginning.'”

Following her passing, Wizkid announced that his next album would be named in her honor, further cementing her legacy in his life and music.
