Afropop star Yemi Alade has been announced as Spotify’s EQUAL Africa artiste for September, according to a statement from Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, released on Friday in Lagos.
Okumu explained that the Spotify EQUAL Africa program is designed to uplift and empower female voices across the continent, showcasing artists who break boundaries with their music. “Yemi Alade epitomizes the kind of talent the program seeks to support,” she said, adding that Spotify is proud to partner with the artist and will continue using the EQUAL Africa platform to amplify the voices of women in music.
With a career spanning more than a decade, Yemi Alade has cemented her place as one of Nigeria’s most influential female musicians, boasting a loyal fanbase both locally and internationally. Known for her dynamic performances and powerful vocals, Alade has gained recognition on global stages and collaborated with international superstars like Beyoncé, Angélique Kidjo, and Awilo Longomba.
Alade’s global reach is evidenced by her world tours, during which she has showcased the richness of African music, captivating diverse audiences.
