2019: Female lawmaker emerges SDP Guber

… as INEC releases 29 Guber candidates in Abia.
By: Sam Obinna Ibe, Umuahia.

The member representing Aba North state constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon Dr. Blessing Nwagba has been listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) as the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party(SDP) for the 2019 election along side 28 from other political parties.
In a list displayed in the INEC office in Abia State last Friday also had the name of Dr Okezie IKpeazu ,Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah,Dr Alex otti as governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic party,(PDP),All Progressives Congress (APC) and All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA) respectively for 2019 election in Abia state.
Hon Blessing Nwagba of the SDP governorship candidate was the surprise in the displayed list granted that many thought that the Female Abia state lawmaker was still a member of PDP though having lost recently Aba North and South Federal constituency ticket to Barr Hon Uzor Azubuike .
It could be recalled that Hon Blessing Nwagba has contested the Federal House of Representatives ticket on the strength that she hails from Aba ngwa,l lamenting that they have had enough of people who are not from the area representing them for too long but could not make it.
The two time law maker was said to have taken a petition to PDP headquarters in Abuja with bus loads of Protesters pleading that an indigene of Aba should be allowed to represent the people but the petition was given expected response hence the defection to SDP.
State Chairman of SDP,Hon Chidi Nwosu was said to have played a major role for the defection of Nwagba to SDP given that both served in the Abia House of Assembly 2011-2015 set and such, the quality of the Female law maker was not in doubt for any party she joins.
Among the three major political parties such as: PDP,APC and SDP,Hon Mrs Blessing Nwagba is the only governorship candidate in the race in the country and our source gathered that the ruling Peoples Democratic party in the state is worried because of the law maker ‘s defection and likely havoc she would caused to party ahead of 2019 election.
To lend credence to the above, the “Aba ngwa” have vowed to vote against PDP in the upcoming election for denying their only daughter who is an indigene the Federal House ticket in favour of Hon Uzor Azubuike who is a non indigene.
Meanwhile political commentators in the state are of the opinion that Abia would witness a robust contest in the forthcoming governorship election with the likes of incumbent Governor,Okezie Ikpeazu of PDP,Uche Ogah of APC,Alex Otti of APGA and Blessing Nwagba of SDP.
When contacted through phone,Hon Dr Mrs Blessing Nwagba as to know on why she decides to defects to SDP and her emergence as the flag bearer of the party, she sent a text message that she is in a meeting and would get back when she is done but has not called back as at the time of going to press.
Meanwhile Abians are divided as to the party that would carry the day in 2019 ,but while some are tipping PDP,others say APC , whereas there are those who believe in Apga while last group say it is SDP.
Whichever it goes, there is the general consensus that one of these four major parties would eventual carries the day when the chips are down.#
