Police recover stolen 10-day-old baby in Zamfara, arrest suspect

The Zamfara State Police Command has recovered a 10-day-old baby allegedly stolen from General Hospital Kaura-Namoda in Zamfara State and arrested a suspect in connection with the case.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, said the infant was recovered three days after the theft was reported at the Kaura-Namoda Divisional Police Station.

According to the police, investigators questioned hospital staff who were on duty at the time of the incident as part of efforts to trace the missing child.

Abubakar said the baby was found on May 15, 2026, in a nearby hamlet, adding that the infant was recovered unharmed and has been reunited with the biological parents.

A 27-year-old suspect has been taken into police custody and is undergoing further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Bello, commended residents for providing timely information that aided the recovery and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime across the state.
