Disputes Emerge in Kogi APC Senatorial Primaries as Echocho Rejects Process

Disagreements and protests marked the All Progressives Congress senatorial primaries in Kogi State on Monday, with Jibrin Isah Echocho rejecting the conduct of the exercise in Kogi East Senatorial District.

In a video circulated online, Echocho alleged that election materials and officials were absent in several wards, including his own polling area. He also claimed the process was not properly conducted.

The senator further alleged that results had been prepared before voting commenced, describing the exercise as invalid. He said he could challenge Ahmed Usman Ododo politically in future elections if his concerns were not addressed.

Echocho also stated that his constituency projects and empowerment programmes were aimed at strengthening support for the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Kogi State government.In Kogi West, another aspirant, Abubakar Zakari Ola, also raised concerns about alleged intimidation and disruptions during voting.

Despite the complaints, party members recorded large turnouts across the three senatorial districts. In Agassa, supporters of former governor Yahaya Bello participated in the primary election for Kogi Central Senatorial District.Governor Ododo, who voted in Okene Local Government Area, described the exercise as peaceful and orderly.Official results of some of the primaries were still being awaited as of press time.
