Three recently dismissed police officers accused of killing Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, were arraigned in court on Wednesday.

The officers—Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip—faced charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. This was confirmed in a statement released by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Friday.

The statement read: “The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the public that the three dismissed officers, Mr. Abiodun Kayode, Mr. James Emmanuel, and Mr. Oni Philip, were charged to court on 16th October 2024. They face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide in connection with the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola. They have been remanded in prison custody pending further court proceedings.”

The officers were dismissed by the police command on Monday after being found guilty of abandoning their duty post, engaging in corrupt practices, and exercising unlawful authority in the incident that led to Ishola’s death on September 4, 2024. The officers—Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Samuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip—were held responsible for their roles in the tragic event.
