Insecurity: NGO Charges Govt. To Intervene, Assist Humanitarian Foundations To Curb Criminality

From Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The President and Founder of Enemona JOSE Humanitarian Foundation, Ambassador Gabriel Onoja over the weekend called for government’s intervention and assistance to humanitarian services to curb criminality in the society.

Onoja made the call at the inauguration of the foundation and official commissioning of the ‘600 capacity auditorium’ of the United Evangelical Church (UEC) at Inele-ugo in Olamaboro local government area, Kogi state.

He pointed out that the Foundation needed government assistance in the area of tractors, Pay-loader, trailers and other mining machinery to solidify the zeal and determination of engaging more youths on the sites to reduce crime and other social vices.

“The major push factor for Crimes and criminality by our youths is idleness and when a productive mind is indolent, it becomes fertile for destructive activities.”

Ambassador Onoja further disclosed that the Foundation in the recent time engaged over one thousand youths in artisan mining activities at various mining sites in the state stressing that the Foundation would soon engage another set of over 500 youths in vocational training programme.

Onoja disclosed that causes of division across the country outside politics and ethnicity is religion stressing that enhanced the creation of an inter religious desk within the foundation.

This according to him also Led to the ongoing building of a mosque at Obehira community in Okene local government and a welfare package for over 200 Imams on monthly basis.

“My motivation to build this church for the Lord in my community is not because I have too much money but to attract God’s blessings to myself and family. I feel fulfilled.”

He therefore charged members of the church to always pray for the Unity, peace and socio economic development of the state and Nigeria at large. “Pray also for a change among the wicked ones in the community, armed robbers, kidnappers and those who made their community unbearable for others to return to God.”

Ambassador Onoja who called for the partnership of wealthy individuals of the public with Enemona Foundation stressed that with the inauguration and registration with CAC, the charity work will be defined and carried out in a more organised way of data capturing and documentation.
