With VGN, Nigeria don’t need state police – Navy Capt. Bakori (rtd)

By our correspondent

The Controller General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Navy Captain Umar Maikori (rtd) has said that the agitation for state police would come to and end if the over one million active members of the organization spread over the nooks and crannies of the country are put into action

Maikori spoke Tuesday in Abuja at a breakfast meeting with editors of some media houses in Abuja. He noted that currently the bill giving legal backing to the VGN has scalled third reading in the National Assembly and a clean copy of the bill already transmitted to Mr. President for assent.

He used the occassion to thank the National Assembly for a thorough job and for a detailed scrutiny of the bill, noting that when the bill finally becomes law Nigeria may no longer need to agitate for state police.

“With over one million membership spread all over Nigeria the VGN fills that gap for local policing. Our main job is community policing, and maintainence of law and order. Our volunteers serve in their locality.
We are ready to assist, we have the advantage of being local we have at least 300 vigilantes in every locality in Nigeria. As a rule our members serve in their states and local governments and they are well trained in local policing”.

Even the recent terror attack in Abuja one of our commanders led the counter attack but unfortunately he lost his life.
We are after the security of our nation.
We get support from private individuals and organizations but we are not getting anything from government hence the agitation for the signing of our bill by Mr president since the National Assembly has graciously passed our bill”

“We are aware of some miscreants impersonating our group but the VGN is one and duly registered by the CAC and i Navy Commander Umar Bakori is the CG”
