The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Benue State chapter has rejected the results of the just concluded Governorship election and resolved that it will approach the Tribunal to reclaim its mandate.
The State Acting Chairman of the party, Mr Isaac Mfo while briefing the media at the party’s Secretariat , Makurdi after a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House expressed dissatisfaction with the results, stating that PDP has resolved that it will challenge the results at the Governorship election petitions tribunal sitting in Makurdi.
The Acting Chairman who noted that the party did its home work by getting in touch with the electorate prior to the election, accused the Federal Government for militarising the process and the use of thugs who were assisted by security operatives deployed to the state to cause confusion.
He expressed disgust that despite the presence of security and intimidation, PDP supporters summoned courage by coming out in large numbers to vote for the party. He lauded them for their resilience and commitment.
Mr Mfo further maintained that aside from carrying out campaign in the state that was based on the party’s track record of developmental strides since the return of democracy in 1999, stressed that this has endeared the party to the people.
The Acting Chairman who pointed out that the PDP had mobilized its candidates to participate in the general election with the hope and trust in the promise made by the INEC to ensure a free, fair and credible elections, however, expressed disappointed that the exercise was not conducted in line with the laws guiding elections.
He implored party’s supporters to remain calm as the party will be heading to the Governorship election petitions tribunal to reclaim their mandate. Ends
