NBA-SPIDEL Urges President Tinubu to Mitigate Fuel Subsidy Removal Impact on Nigerians
The Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action in alleviating the consequences of the fuel subsidy removal, as Nigerians continue to endure suffering.
During a press briefing held in Lagos on Monday, NBA-SPIDEL Chairman, Monday Ubani, criticized the president’s approach to the subsidy removal, highlighting the pain and hardship experienced by Nigerians.
Ubani expressed concerns about the flawed process and procedure used for the removal, emphasizing that citizens are consistently victimized by ill-conceived government policies. He asserted that the sudden elimination of the fuel subsidy has had severe consequences on the populace.
While acknowledging the recent salary increase for civil servants, Ubani stressed that such measures alone are insufficient to address the current crisis. He called for the implementation of more comprehensive and carefully devised economic packages to cushion the adverse effects of the new policy. Ubani urged President Tinubu to seek wise counsel and guidance to navigate the challenges faced by the country.
In a separate note, Ubani commended the president for his decision to remove Godwin Emefiele as the Central Bank governor. He further called for a thorough investigation into Emefiele’s tenure and urged for a similar probe into the aviation ministry.
