Omotola Ekeinde boasts of pioneering Nigerian entertainment globally ahead of Afrobeats, shares iconic Nollywood films

Nollywood star, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, reflects on iconic Nollywood movies and claims Nigerian entertainment was introduced to the world before Afrobeats.

Omotola, a veteran actress with over two decades in the industry, shared clips from memorable Nollywood films such as Yankee Girls, Games Women Play, Blood Sisters, All My Life, and Kosorogun. In her caption, she highlighted the significant role Nollywood played in putting Nigeria on the global entertainment map even before the rise of Afrobeats. She acknowledged the challenges of low movie quality and the absence of social media during that time but emphasized how Nollywood managed to break barriers and captivate international audiences.

Recently, Omotola, who relocated to the United States with her family, expressed how living abroad has opened her eyes to the hardships faced by Nigerians. She voiced her frustration at the unnecessary suffering endured by the Nigerian people and urged for positive change. Omotola believes that Nigerians are intelligent and shouldn’t have to endure such hardships.

In a separate interview with Chude Jidenwo, Omotola revealed intimate details about her upbringing, including the challenges she faced after her father’s untimely death. She shared that she almost resorted to prostitution as a means of survival due to the difficult circumstances she encountered during her youth.

Overall, Omotola’s reflections shed light on the early success of Nollywood and its significant influence on Nigerian entertainment, preceding the global recognition of Afrobeats.
