Former Charleroi boss Edward Still appointed as new manager of KV Kortrijk as ex-Super Eagles star steps down

Akpala, who took charge last month following the departure of head coach Bernd Storck, has been overseeing team training during his short stint. However, as the new season approaches, KV Kortrijk has decided to appoint Edward Still, the former manager of Royale Sporting Charleroi, as their new head coach. According to Nieuwsblad, 32-year-old Still has inked a two-season contract and will officially take the helm on Monday, leading his first training session. This will mark Still’s third foray into the Belgian Jupiler League.

In his debut season in 2021, he guided Charleroi to a commendable sixth-place finish.Last season, he coached Eupen but parted ways with the team shortly after they secured their spot in the league. Now, Edward Still assumes the responsibility of leading KV Kortrijk to success.

The club has not yet disclosed the specific role they will assign to Akpala moving forward.

Nevertheless, the 36-year-old former Super Eagles striker is well-versed in Belgian football, having enjoyed successful spells at Club Brugge, Royale Charleroi, and KV Oostende.

With an impressive record of 90 goals in 286 league and playoff games in Belgium, Akpala considers the European nation his second home.
