RMAFC Urges Tax Compliance to Boost Revenue Generation

By Daniel edu

Alhaji Muhammed Shehu, Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), has called on Nigerians to prioritize tax compliance as a means to enhance revenue generation in the country.

Shehu made this plea during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He also encouraged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as private business owners to promptly remit their taxes to the Federal Government to avoid sanctions.

Shehu emphasized that the revenues generated from tax payments would be utilized to improve services and infrastructure across the nation for the benefit of all citizens.

The chairman reiterated the importance of expanding the country’s tax base, noting that less than 40 million Nigerians currently pay taxes, which is relatively low given the country’s large population.

“The Federal Government and various tiers of the federation are focused on increasing revenue by plugging loopholes,” he stated.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day Anniversary, Shehu acknowledged it as a significant milestone. He urged Nigerians to look back at the progress made and the challenges facing the nation since gaining independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960.

Shehu emphasized the need to honor the sacrifices and contributions of those who fought for Nigeria’s independence and celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions that make the country unique. He also stressed the importance of reaffirming commitment to unity, peace, and progress as Nigeria continues its journey forward.
