Obaseki Emphasizes Truth in Politics and Swears in Additional Aides

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has issued a stern warning against the use of falsehood, manipulation, and blackmail in politics. He stressed the importance of politicians earning the trust of the people through their actions rather than relying solely on court judgments to attain political power.

Obaseki made these remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) in Edo Central Senatorial District, which took place in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Council. These newly appointed SSAs and SAs hail from various local government areas in the state, including Igueben, Esan West, Esan South East, Esan North East, and Esan Central.

The governor underscored that residency in their respective wards was a key criterion for these appointments, and any SSA or SA found working outside their local government or Benin City would be relieved of their duties. He emphasized the importance of monthly reporting to facilitate the improvement of the people’s lives, highlighting their crucial role in the administration.

Reflecting on the recent local government elections, Obaseki acknowledged the support of these aides during the campaign and praised their contributions to the election’s success. He also addressed the common practice of some politicians relying on court decisions rather than grassroots support for political power.

He stated, “Politics is being played on lies, misinformation, and rumors as a way to get political advantages. They want to confuse our people, but your job is to put the record straight, letting the people know the truth.”

Regarding their roles, he differentiated between the newly sworn-in aides and local government officials, emphasizing the aides’ responsibility to the governor. Obaseki discussed various government initiatives and projects, highlighting the importance of the aides’ role in gathering information and keeping the government informed about developments in their localities.

He concluded by expressing his commitment to improving healthcare, security, and economic opportunities in the state and emphasized the need for the aides to keep him informed about these vital aspects of governance in their respective wards.
