“Bauchi Suspect Death After Interrogation by Quasi-Security Outfit”

By  Milcah   Tanimu
Members of a quasi-security outfit in Bauchi have caused the death of a suspect, Yohanna Abubakar, 35, by subjecting him to excessive beating during interrogation in an attempt to force him to confess to allegations against him.

The Bauchi State police disclosed the suspect’s killing.

According to the police, “The command, through sources of information and monitoring activities of security complementary bodies (quasi-security outfits) to check their activities, received information on 28/09/2023 at about 0300hrs from a reliable source. This information related to an incident on 26/09/2023 at about 1930hrs involving professional hunters.”

The state commissioner of police, CP Musa Mohammed Auwal, named the professional hunters as Muhammad, Umar, 43, from Takanda village, and Hussain Umar, 35, from Zaranda Village.

“The above-mentioned quasi-outfit members acted and arrested the following persons: Joshua Yonana, 30, Bitrus Iliya, 27, and Yonana Abubakar, 35, all from Waya village, respectively.

“During interrogation by the quasi-members, the suspects were subjected to physical abuse in an attempt to force them to reveal the facts of the allegation against them.

“Suddenly, one of the suspects, Yonana Abubakar, collapsed and was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he later died and was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by the DPO of Toro swung into action, rushed to the scene, arrested the members of the professional hunters for their actions, and released the corpse to the relatives for burial,” the CP explained.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspects were accused of spiritually stealing the male organ of Usman Sale, 28, from Sabon Garin Nabardo.

The suspects, Bitrus and Joshua, confessed to committing the alleged offense during questioning by journalists.

The CP stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and after its conclusion, the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution accordingly.
