From Leo Zuanke, Nasarawa
In the heart of Nasarawa State, a historic moment unfolded at the Government House in Lafia on Monday where the political titans of the region, past and present, joined hands to dispel rumors and reaffirm their commitment to the state’s development.
Former Governors Abdullahi Adamu and Tanko Almakura, distinguished figures with a profound impact on Nasarawa’s political landscape, stood shoulder to shoulder with the current Governor, Abdullahi A. Sule, in a symbolic display of unity.
According to some political pundits who are of the opinion that In recent times, speculation of a rift between these influential figures had cast a shadow of doubt over their shared vision for Nasarawa. They had questioned the strength of their collective commitment to the state’s welfare.
Indeed, this wasn’t the first time these esteemed leaders had publicly declared their unwavering support for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration. They raised issues concerning alleged rifts as published in some national Dailies from 7th December, 2022, 26th November, 2022, and 19th July, 2023. But these claims have repeatedly been debunked by the leaders themselves.”
Although, they said False information can spread like wildfire, sowing unnecessary tension and mistrust. However, it is our duty to verify the authenticity of such claims before accepting them as gospel.”
However, some party chieftain have commended the efforts of the recent gathering saying it served as a potent testament to the resilience of their alliance and their determination to march in unison towards a more prosperous Nasarawa.
According to Dr. Kassim Muhammed Kassim, APC chieftain, Gov. Sule’s Special Adviser politics, Northern zone of the state has said the meeting was a showcase of statesmanship, wisdom, and an unwavering dedication to the people of Nasarawa.
“It is time to think Nasarawa before self, the coming together of these leaders will put to rest all the misguided statements from their various supporters.”
Unguided Statements he said may hinder investors as the governor had mentioned if cations is not taking”
Political pundits also dissected the events of the day, they echoed a single, powerful message: the commitment to Nasarawa’s progress was stronger than any perceived differences.
“The meeting provided an opportunity for these leaders to reaffirm their shared vision for the state’s advancement,” commented one political analyst. “They are determined to work together, leveraging their unique strengths and experiences to improve the welfare of the people and bring about positive change.”
“It is true that political landscapes often harbor complexities, and Nasarawa is no exception. While some had perpetuated the notion of a strained relationship, the reality is far different. The leaders have unequivocally expressed their dedication to the state’s progress and unity.”
In the words of Abdullahi Adamu, former chairman of the All Progressive Congress who used the opportunity to dismissed insinuations suggesting that a rift exist between the three of them.
“The moment a society doesn’t have this kind of air, then it’s not a society. The people who don’t mean well to the state are the ones peddling the kind of rumour you are talking about. I don’t know anybody who will come tomorrow but for those of us who have been and are being, we love this state.
“It’s people who don’t mean well, people who believe there must be crisis, there has to be misunderstanding between the leaders for them to benefit. They are the ones promoting this. We have no reason, we have nothing to benefit from the disunity of this state. I repeat nothing whatsoever.
“We are at the moment in a state of flux because of the outcome of the last election. And it’s in our interest more than any body’s interest to be united, to be able to restore hope in the state and the country. That is the reason we are here for and we will continue to do so for as long as we breathe,” he stated.
Senator Almakura who handed over to governor Abdullahi Sule said as former governors, they have a duty to support incumbent Governor Sule.
“As former governors, we have a duty to support the administration of colleague and at any point in time, for whatsoever reason, if there are crises or worries, we may not need to be invited because we are critical stakeholders and statesmen,” he added.
“This is a usual routine meeting that we have been having right from the time His Excellency came on board. People may not know because we may not announce our routine consultations to advice and counsel on issues that affect the state.
“That is why our meetings with His Excellency is very paramount, very important especially at this point in time when we are being challenged by certain situations. That we need to get our heads together to forge ahead.
“I can assure you, we are working together and we are focused and we are urging all our supporters and stakeholders to emulate our good relationships and also support this administration in whatever way that they can.”
I believe given this affinity, relationship and love that exist between ourselves, all the insinuations you are hearing about not seeing eye to eye or in talking terms are mere speculations or fake news.
“We here. We have always been here. We have been talking to ourselves virtually on a daily basis. I want to assure you, we are good to go and in sha Allah, this will be good for the people of Nasarawa State,” Senator Al-makura stated.
