Breaking: Plateau State Governor’s Election Validated by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has affirmed Caleb Mutfwang’s victory in the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election in Plateau State. While the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Jos upheld Muftwang’s win, the appeal court initially declared Nentawe Goshwe of the All Progressives Congress as the winner.

The Appeal Court’s decision was based on the PDP’s failure to comply with the Plateau State High Court’s order to conduct valid ward, local governments, and state congresses before nominating candidates. Consequently, the court also ousted numerous PDP lawmakers in the state.

In the recent judgment, Justice Emmanuel Agim emphasized that the APC and its candidate lacked standing to challenge the PDP’s primary election, and both the tribunal and the appeal court had no jurisdiction over the matter. Justice John Okoro expressed concern about the impact on individuals, stating, “My worry is that a lot of people have suffered as a result of this.”
