1,500 Dismissed OAUTH Workers Stage Protest

Must read

Former employees of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ile-Ife, staged a protest at the hospital premises on Friday, demanding the reversal of their dismissal by the management.

Over 1,500 workers were laid off by the Federal Government due to alleged irregularities in their recruitment process.

The protesters objected to a circular issued by the hospital management announcing an examination for certain positions that would be considered for reemployment.

Blocking the main gates of the hospital, the demonstrators halted both human and vehicular traffic in and out of the complex.

Samson Falope, one of the dismissed staff, expressed concerns about the scheduled examination, slated to take place on March 9 at the Command Day Secondary School, Army Barrack, Ede, Osun.

“We demand the suspension of the examination until the Ministry and relevant authorities intervene and resolve the issue. We have notified the ministry, and both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly are aware of our situation,” Falope said.

However, the Public Relations Officer of OAUTHC, Miss Kemi Fasoto, affirmed that the examination would proceed as planned by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
